Viewing Instructions | Compatibility | Trouble | Quicktime for Windows | Quicktime for Macintosh Under ordinary circumstances, videos on the BAAM website should open in a few seconds in a small window in your internet browser page. Some browsers will open your video in a separate window. If you have a cable modem or faster connection, most videos will take about 3 seconds to start and about 10 seconds to fully download. DSL systems will take a little longer. If you are using a dial-up modem, the videos can take several minutes to load. At times of heavy server load, the videos may take longer to load on all systems. You should be able to start, stop, and reset the video using the controls directly below the video. Some systems allow controlling the video by clicking directly on the picture or using the space bar. . All videos are compatible with Quicktime 4.0 or higher*. To play properly, all browsers require the Quicktime plug-in or a compatible viewer. Quicktime is standard on all Macintosh systems. It is sometimes not present on Windows systems. The Quicktime plug-in is usually installed automatically when Quicktime is downloaded and installed. The following browsers have been tested for compatibility with BAAM video:
We have not tested browsers installed on Linux or other operating systems. We have not tested mobile and cell phone based browsers. The videos do not yet operate on the iPod Touch and iPhone. *All videos are compressed and hinted using the H.263 codec with a bitrate of 6400 kbits/second with dimensions of 320 x 240 pixels. Audio is encoded in AAC format with a sampling rate of 48 khz in mono. If you are having trouble viewing the videos, you probably need to install or update your Quicktime installation. You may go directly to the Quicktime site, or use the links below. BAAM cannot offer individual technical assistance. If you don't see the sample movie above, you probably need to install Quicktime. Some Windows computers do not have Quicktime pre-installed. Because Quicktime is one of the dominant video formats on the internet, it is recommended that you install the most current version of Quicktime that is compatible with your operating system. The standard browser for Windows is Internet Explorer. Some other browsers come with Quicktime software pre-installed. RealPlayer and some other video viewers can play Quicktime movies. But, these viewer may not display the videos within your web page window. Some new versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer may not display the video within the browser window. If you are using a Macintosh and connected to the internet, you may automatically update your Quicktime installation by selecting "Software Update" under the blue Apple menu in the upper left corner of your screen (Macintosh OS X) or the "Software Update" control panel under the multicolored Apple menu in the upper right corner of your screen (Macintosh Classic OS 8.5-9.x).
