Annual Meeting 2002

This yearŐs annual membership meeting was held at the Behavior Analysis Association of Michigan Convention on Thursday March 14th at 1:00 pm.  Turn out was good and several new members were recruited at that time.  The agenda for that meeting is listed below.

ź     Old Business: Last yearŐs goals and accomplishments.

Treasury Report

Presented by Gina Truesdell-Todd

ź     New Business: This yearŐs goals

Committee explanation and sign up

Presented by Krista Kennedy

ź     Informational Presentation: ABA resources for children with autism in Michigan and a discussion on licensure

Presented by Amy Jenkins

ź     Open discussion for members and board

In addition to the annual meeting, the ASIG had an information booth at the convention, which was very successful in spreading the word about our new organization and gaining support for our mission.

Where we fell short at this yearŐs convention was in gaining member support in the committeeŐs that the board had established to meet our goals for this year.  We are still looking for members to assist in the following committees, which are described to the left.

  1. Scholarship Committee
  2. Newsletter Committee
  3. Fundraiser Committee

4.   Advertisement Committee

Descriptions of the committees are as follows:

Scholarship Committee

Members that sign up for the scholarship committee will participate in the establishment of the scholarship rules and selection criteria.

Newsletter Committee

Members that sign up for the newsletter committee will participate in the publication of the bi-yearly newsletter.  Participation will include researching topics, submitting editorials, interviewing professionals in the field, and researching upcoming events.

Fundraiser Committee

Members that sign up for the fundraiser committee will participate in the organization and implementation of fundraising activities and events.

Advertising Committee

Members that sign up for the advertising committee with participate in organizing and implementing advertising activities to recruit new members and establish BAAM-ASIG in the community.

If you are interested in assisting in one of the above committees please contact Krista Kennedy at 734-564-1849 or kmanganello@provide.net to discuss how to get started on the goals for that committee.

Note From the Editor

Over the past year I have been presenting announcements to the group by email and bi-yearly newsletter.  The biggest disappointment I have had during this time is the lack of local activities I have been able to disseminate.  It seems that many other states have well-organized local organizations that were able to establish conferences and workshops given by behavior analysts in the field.  However, many of the well-organized local organizations in Michigan focus much of their effort on non-behavioral strategies for treating autism.

My request to all the professionals, students, and parents in our organization is to attempt to spread the word and push for workshops and conferences focusing on Applied Behavior Analysis therapies for the treatment of autism within the other organizations that you are a member of or have contact with.  Teaching other professionals about ABA will make the biggest change in our state as far as appropriate treatment for children with autism.

Thanks for your membership and your compassion to the groupŐs mission.

Krista Kennedy
