Movies: ABA in Natural Settings
Now
available for viewing on mobile web browsers including iPhone and
iPod Touch!
We need to
remind those outside our field that ABA is far more than a teacher
sitting knee-to-knee with a student endlessly repeating discrete trials.
(Vincent Strully,
Director of the New England Center for Children, SABA Award Acceptance
Speech, May 2005.)
Take
a look at BAAM's new video series, "Applied
Behavior Analysis in Natural Settings." This series of 32 video
vignettes shows how ABA is applied in natural settings to promote more
effective teaching and generalization of skills.
Designed
primarily for parents and new professionals, each video includes a brief
descriptive introduction and a detailed explanation of the important
elements of each teaching interaction. BAAM has also provided an overview
of ABA and glossary
of basic behavioral terms to help those new to ABA appreciate the
technical details of the presentations. A technical
assistance page will guide those few who might not already have
a compatible web-browser*. Although these videos are not designed to
teach therapeutic techniques, they will provide an appreciation for
the range of settings and circumstances in which high-quality ABA teaching
can and should occur.
*All
videos require a Quicktime compatible viewer or web browser.
All
videos and related material are for personal use only. The videos and
related materials may not be downloaded, re posted, distributed, collected,

FSU
Panama City Campus and FSU Behavior Analysis Program Get Three-Year
Reprieve

Doing ABA is far less costly than not
doing ABA.
The
threatened closure of the Panama City campus of Florida State University
has been put off for three years, pending enrollment increases and
other actions. The Panama City campus is home to the highly respected
program in Applied Behavior Analysis at Florida State University,
which will continue to provide high-quality behavioral training during
the reprieve. Jon
Bailey, Co-Director of the Florida
State ABA Master's Program, sends BAAM his thanks for its efforts
to publicize the closure and attract signatures to the petition to
save the campus:
Thanks...so
much for your support of our Masters in ABA Program at our Panama
City Campus. With your help we were successful and saving the program.
The Provost was impressed that so many people from around the country
rallied to lobby for keeping our program. We have a 3-yr reprieve
(actually it's the campus, not our ABA program) with an explicit requirement
that the administration increase, actually double, the student enrollment.
If the campus survives then we will too.
Thanks
Again for highlighting our program.
Jon
Now
it is time to help the Panama City Campus meet its enrollment goals
by recommending it to prospective students, including prospective behavior
analysts, and continue to emphasize to lawmakers that cutting higher
education is false economy that buys short-term gains at the cost of
eliminating of one of the highest returning financial investments a
state can make.

"Under
the settlement, Blue Cross will pay for behavioral therapy rendered
